Ah, crap. I realized the reason we haven't done this yet is the difficulty in silencing that initialization message without a logging system.
I made a milestone for the 0.8.1 gem release with a new logging system ticket attached to it.
Let's defer this until then.

Come to think of it, it should print the version number so people reading debug output will have an easier time on their hands in the future...
